Be an energy- and water-saving HERO with new HERO program


Currently in Menlo Park, and starting later this year in Foster City, and early 2015 in Redwood City, Woodside, and the unincorporated portions of San Mateo County, local residents will have an opportunity to be energy- and water-saving heroes, thanks to local elected officials in these areas and the HERO Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. 2014 Award Recipients


Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is proud to announce its 2014 Award recipients. Winners of the 2014 Sustainability Award are: The Grand Boulevard Initiative, Reach and Teach, and the North Shoreview Montessori School. Winner of the 2014 Green Building Award is 5th Avenue Alternative School, Redwood City, with Honorable Mention going to affordable housing at 7555 Mission St, Daly City. The Ruth Peterson Award will go to SSMC founding member and long-time volunteer and supporter Ricki McGlashan. More jobs, declining affordability will increase traffic congestion San Mateo County sees high levels of cross-county commuting, as 60% of people employed in the county live in other areas and must commute in for work. On a given workday, nearly 200,000 workers commute into San Mateo County, while a similar number of residents commute out to other counties for work. SSMC receives grant on sustainable food policies from Get Healthy San Mateo


Sustainable San Mateo County recently received a year-long grant from County of San Mateo Health System / Health Policy and Planning to collaborate with the City of San Mateo, the San Mateo Cool Cities Team of Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter, and the Policy Committee of the San Mateo County Food System Alliance to pass at least one sustainable food policy in San Mateo and hold public outreach on healthy food.
