We’ve listed a few opportunities below, but we can use help in many areas, including social media and database creation, so please contact us if you want to get involved. We also offer internships for students.

Committee Opportunities:

Indicators Committee

  • Researches and drafts the annual Indicators Report, which examines one critical sustainability issue and how it impacts San Mateo County. The topic for 2022 is building electrification.
  • Research, writing, graphic design, database management and data visualization skills desired.
  • Meets monthly for 1 hour.

Awards Committee

  • Have a great time planning the county’s biggest sustainability party: our annual Sustainability Awards event! This committee plans all aspects of our Awards program, from nominations and judging, to soliciting auction donations, to event planning and coordination of SSMC’s annual spring Awards Celebration and Auction.
  • Event planning, database management, writing, content provider, fundraising, social media and videographer skills desired.
  • Meets monthly for 1 hour from September to January and more often as Awards Event nears.

Dashboard Committee

  • Researches and tracks sustainability progress in all 20 cities in San Mateo County with key performance indicators.
  • Meets annually with city leaders to review findings.
  • Research, writing, graphic design and data visualization skills desired.
  • Meets monthly for 1 hour.

Communications Committee

  • Addresses communications strategy, advocacy and long-term outreach projects.
  • Writing, editing, outreach, social media and strategic communication skills desired.
  • Meets as needed on project basis.

Fundraising Committee

  • Helps develop prospects and strategies to fund SSMC’s mission and program.
  • Fundraising and grant writing experience desirable.
  • Meets monthly for 1 hour.
